Love is the biggest winner
Well beyond victory and defeat, our defining characteristic is that we are loved.
"WE ARE an Easter people and alleluia is our song!" Those words of St. Augustine sum up the hope of Christians. Despite disappointments, injustices, and crushing defeats, we do not despair, because we are "the Easter people," as Pope John Paul II later stated it. Sin and death have been conquered and love reigns.
Next time you miss your mark or slide off course, remember that this moment of failure does not begin to define who you are. Your defining characteristic, above all else, is that you are loved by the source of all love, and you will remain in the light of that love for all time.
No wonder Alleluia is our song!
